The Maguire Ethics Center Student Advisory Board empowers students to provide valuable feedback and student perspectives on ethical issues and initiatives at SMU. Serving as a bridge between the student body and the Ethics Center, the Board plays a crucial role in shaping campus-wide discussions, events, and programs that promote ethical awareness and public responsibility. Board members meet monthly during the fall and spring semesters to collaborate on impactful projects, engage with faculty and professionals, and advocate for ethics and public responsibility across the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøcommunity.

Board Structure & Roles

The board consists of a Chair, Vice Chair, and active members, each with specific responsibilities.

The Chair leads board meetings, sets strategic goals in collaboration with Ethics Center staff, and serves as a student representative to the Ethics Center Advisory Board. The Vice Chair supports the Chair, helps coordinate meetings and projects, and assists with onboarding new members. Active members participate in event planning, advocate for ethical discussions, and represent the Ethics Center in outreach efforts on and off campus.


Commitment & Expectations

Board members meet monthly during the academic year and take an active role in programming, outreach, and fostering ethical discussions among students.

Who Can Apply?

All 51³Ô¹ÏÍøstudents who are:
✔  passionate about ethics, leadership, and making an impact.
✔ enjoy collaborating with faculty, students, and professionals.
✔ looking to develop leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills.
✔  ready to influence ethical discussions and drive change at SMU.

Applicants must intend to return of the 2026-2027 academic year. All advisory board members must be currently enrolled students throughout their tenure on the advisory board.
