Windows Device Management (Microsoft Intune)

Microsoft Intune is a cloud device management platform used to securely manage, configure, and support University-managed devices. Enrollment into Intune is part of SMU’s modern device management strategy, replacing reliance on traditional management tools while preserving productivity and security.

Enrollment in our Windows Device Management solution, Microsoft Intune, is required for University-managed Windows devices. Microsoft Intune integrates with cloud-centric identity and security tools, such as Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and supports 51³Ô¹ÏÍøInventory & Asset Management within a modern framework.

Microsoft Intune provides the following for SMU-Managed Windows Devices that will be introduced in phases:

  • Cloud-based configuration and compliance policies (e.g., security baselines, encryption, system settings)
  • Policy enforcement for security and conditional access
  • Integrated support for Windows-specific features and future Windows upgrades
