51³Ô¹ÏÍøPublic Wiki Project

A centralized, collaborative, and publicly accessible knowledge base that will serve as a trusted resource

The Public Knowledge Wiki will launch in the fall. This project aims to create a centralized, collaborative, and publicly accessible knowledge base that will serve as a trusted resource for our community. The public wiki will house essential information, best practices, and guidelines for all to have as a resource and share amongst interested parties.

The new space will promote transparency and open access to institutional knowledge, encourage community contributions and collaborative learning, reduce redundancy and improve consistency in documentation, and support onboarding, training, and long-term organizational memory.

The space will have the same user-friendly interface with powerful search functionality as our current wiki.smu.edu space. We encourage version control and editing history for accountability. We will provide contributor guidelines and editorial standards.

In the coming weeks we will announce the name of the new space along with an official launch date.

Why a new wiki?

When Wiki.51³Ô¹ÏÍøwas first introduced on campus, the intention was to have a public wiki space for guests and non-51³Ô¹ÏÍømembers to find content or resources, but users have come to expect content to be protected within Wiki.51³Ô¹ÏÍøby default.

We are now in process of implementing a new public wiki service that does not require a login to easily access documentation and non-sensitive resources. This space will have a new URL, separate from wiki.smu.edu.
