Pederson Broadcast Studio

The Pederson Broadcast Studio and its control room are furnished with all the equipment students need to produce TV news. Students learn to operate professional cameras, a Grass Valley video switcher, teleprompter, CG, Still Store, and an on-air server. Every weekday, students produce, write and crew The Daily Update, a news show covering SMU, as well as local and national news. Students shoot and edit their own news packages and video elements, and they also have access to CNN feeds and other industry standard newsfeeds. Students also produce, write, and crew Al Punto, a weekly Spanish-language news show, and Press Pass, a weekly sports show.
With these state-of-the-art facilities, students learn to handle every aspect of creating a successful news broadcast and get hands-on experience using industry-standard HD equipment and programming, all in preparation for real-world broadcast work.
