Bridwell Press

Bridwell Press was founded in 2022 as the professional publishing arm of Bridwell Library at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøLibraries and Perkins School of Theology. The breadth of its publishing has expanded to cover a comprehensive range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, with a focus on cultural and linguistic heritage. Works in translation, mostly covering texts published before 1930, have become central to our areas of focus and production in many of our disciplinary series (e.g. East & Central Asia Series, Armenian Series, and Cambodian Series).

The Press is open access and produces both e-books that are free to the public, worldwide, and hard copies of books, available mostly on-demand through the Fulcrum site and national book retailers online at affordable prices.

Series

Bridwell Press has over a dozen discipline-focused series, most of which are governed by an editorial board comprised of scholars in the fields of the series focus. The series are aimed at expanding and promoting the vast range of human knowledge from around the world, much of which has been neglected or unknown in the English-speaking world.

Journals

The Journal of Praise & Worship is an interdisciplinary, open-access, peer-reviewed journal published annually. Its purpose is to advance scholarship on the global phenomenon variously known as contemporary worship, praise and worship, and modern worship. The journal explores not only the musical forms commonly associated with these terms, but also the people, networks, and institutions involved; the practices, materials, and technologies that shape them; and the distinct theologies, ideologies, and logics through which praise and worship is understood and employed.

Our Mission and Values

Our mission is to engage with a broad community of authors, who seek to publish creative, quality, and freely accessible works on a global scale. We believe there is room for new, adventurous, and broad thinking in publishing, especially as it supports scholars who have great ideas, but may not have easy opportunities to publish. We value open source, interdisciplinary, and creatively unorthodox scholarship. And through these publishing efforts, we support the preservation of cultural heritage of global communities, whose literary and historical documentation and memory are at risk of being lost.

Submissions

Anyone with a compelling idea that fits within our mission and parameters of publishing can be considered. Authors maintain copyright, and Bridwell Press retains the right to republish. Authors do not pay to publish and do not get royalties. The cost of production and maintenance are underwritten by Bridwell Library and Bridwell Press. Submissions for consideration are done on a series-by-series basis. For those with open submissions, contact information of series editor is provided on the Series page. Other series have closed or limited submissions (e.g. Dallas Institute, Art & Culture).
