Biography
Dr. Antoinette Williams‑Tutt is an Assistant Teaching Professor of French in the Department of World Languages and Literatures in SMU’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. She joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍøin 2020 after more than a decade of teaching French in New York City at Hunter College, Fordham University, the City College of New York, and Manhattan College, alongside work as a freelance translator, external consultant to the United Nations, study‑abroad staff member in Paris, tutor, French‑diction coach for singers, and performer in a variety of vocal and improv projects in New York City.
Her research focuses on modern and contemporary Québécois literature, particularly the road novel and its reworking of the American road‑trip tradition to explore questions of national and cultural identity. She has presented her work at major national and international conferences, including the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS), the American Council for Québec Studies (ACQS), the Modern Language Association (MLA), and the Association internationale des études québécoises (AIEQ).
Dr. Williams‑Tutt is also deeply engaged in language pedagogy and faculty development. She has completed 51³Ô¹ÏÍøCenter for Teaching Excellence programs and ACTFL’s Modified Oral Proficiency Interview (MOPI) workshop, earned a Just in Time Teaching and Technology (JiTTT) grant to enhance engagement through digital tools, and regularly presents at SMU’s Interlinguistic Pedagogical Exchange, Taste of Teaching, and Teaching Effectiveness Symposium. Her teaching emphasizes communicative proficiency, close reading, and intercultural competence through authentic Francophone texts, film, and media.
