About

Beck A. Munsey, Ph.D., LPC-S is a counselor, supervisor, and counselor educator whose work is grounded in a deep commitment to authentic connection, inclusive practice, and the development of the next generation of mental health professionals.

As a licensed counselor, Dr. Munsey maintains a private practice with a primary focus on transgender and gender-expansive adults, while also serving broader members of the LGBTGEQIAP+ community and individuals navigating mental health challenges. As a board-approved supervisor, he supervises and mentors LPC Associates through the clinical and professional development process as they work toward full licensure.

Dr. Munsey has been a counselor educator since 2010. Prior to joining 51³Ô¹ÏÍøMethodist University's Counseling Department, he served on the faculty at Tarleton State University for 13 years, where he held roles as professor, academic advisor, clinical supervisor, and mentor. At SMU, he hopes to continue this legacy by building meaningful relationships with students, creating safer spaces for exploring professional identity, and supporting each student in discovering what it means to show up authentically as a counselor.

His research and presentation interests span a range of timely and innovative topics, including transgender and gender-expansive issues in counseling and healthcare, flexible seating in higher education classrooms, the positive mental health impacts of tabletop role-playing games, and a multicultural lens on humanistic sandtray therapy. Dr. Munsey has shared his work at local, state, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Munsey currently serves as Senator for the Texas Association for Humanistic Counseling, a division of the Texas Counseling Association. This role reflects his personal commitment to humanistic principles centering the dignity, worth, and growth potential of every individual, both in the counseling room and in the classroom.
